(AP) — Community outrage over the firing of Central City High School’s head football coach has spurred a new effort to recall two school board members.
The Grand Island Independent reports (http://bit.ly/1bRiZml) that central Nebraska community has been in turmoil since the April firing of football coach Darin Garfield, and school board meetings have been filled with people demanding his reinstatement.
Merrick County Clerk Marcia Wichman says Kip Lenhart, of Central City, filed paperwork last month to start the recall process against Board President Dale Palser and Board Secretary Steve Belitz.
The petitions are now being circulated in hopes of gathering the 449 signatures needed to force a recall election.
