Wanda Evans

Wanda L. Evans, age 91, of North Platte, died July 27, 2013 at her home. She was born on August 1, 1921 in Kearney, NE to Burt and Mabel (Bowker) Dady.
Wanda graduated from Kearney High School with the class of 1938. She then worked as a secretary and helped at the Dady Cafe. On February 13, 1943 Wanda married Claude E. Evans in Lincoln. After Claude’s discharge from WWII, the couple made their home in Kearney.
They moved to North Platte in 1955 where Claude managed Swans Furniture. In 1975, the couple purchased the business. It continues to be run as a family business today. Wanda was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Goodfellow Shoe Fund, Lifetime member of he PTA, and was an active leader of Campfire Girls. Wanda was the family photographer and Husker football fan. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was always very caring and generous, sending cards to everyone she knew and many that she didn’t. A memorial has been established to the North Platte Public Schools Foundation or to the Goodfellow Shoe Fund. Online condolences can be made at www.adamsswanson.com.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay (Don) Lucas, and Karen (Tim) Carstensen, all of North Platte; a sister, Ardella Roberts of Kearney; three brothers, LeRoy Dady of Kearney, Milan Dady of Omaha, and Gale (Ollie) Dady of Kearney; five grandchildren, Ty (Jackie) Lucas of North Platte, Kristina (Terry) Fesler of Eagle, Idaho, Dan (Tina) Carstensen of Lincoln, Jessica Carstensen of North Platte, and Kate Carstensen of North Platte; nine great-grandchildren, Finn and Max Lucas, Gabe, Belle, and Crew Fesler, Kadan, Gavin, and Evan Carstensen, and Ciara MacMillan; loving friend, Vickie Johnson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1994, an infant daughter Carol Sue, and two sisters, Iola Johnson and Gwendolen Bruns.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home with her nephew, Pastor Wayne Roberts officiating. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Adams & Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
