(AP) — “Punky Brewster” and the kids from “Saved by the Bell” are returning to the small screen through digital comic books. So, too, are “Knight Rider,” ”Airwolf” and “Miami Vice.”

Lion Forge Comics and NBC Universal said Tuesday they partnered to develop, write, illustrate and publish digital comics based on those shows from the 1980s and 1990s, bringing new stories for characters like Crocket and Tubbs as well as Kit and Screech.

The comics are set to be released later this year through iTunes, Amazon’s Kindle Bookstore, Barnes & Nobles’ Nook store and Kobo.

The NBC Universal-owned shows are the latest in a growing push that has seen other TV properties extend their stories in comics, most recently “The X-Files” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

‘Despicable Me 2’ Tramples ‘The Lone Ranger’ at the Box Office

despicable-me-2The minions have overtaken “The Lone Ranger.”

Studio estimates Friday show “Despicable Me 2” is trampling the Johnny Depp Western at the holiday box office. The animated Universal sequel has collected three times more than the Disney cowboy caper since both films debuted Wednesday.

“Despicable Me 2” earned $59.5 million so far, while “The Lone Ranger” took in $19.5 million in ticket sales.

Moviegoers opted for the minions over the masked man by more than 2 to 1 on Independence Day. The family film dominated with $24.5 million Thursday, compared with Ranger’s $9.86 million.

Poor reviews for “The Lone Ranger” may have translated to sluggish ticket sales. Chicago Sun-Times critic Richard Roeper called the $250 million Western “slick trash.”

UNL Program Using Technology to Track Bumble Bees

bumblebee(AP) — The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Entomology Department has started a program to teach high school students how to use radio tracking technology to learn about queen bees.

The project, which started in May, is tentatively called “Bumble Boosters 2.0,” a reboot of one that ran from 1999 to 2002.

Doug Golick, is an assistant professor in entomology at UNL and was a student during the original “Bumble Boosters.” That original program simply had high school students collect bumblebees to track the different species in the area.

But Golick and his colleagues are now trying to attach radio tracking devices to bumblebee queens.

The goal is to see where they decide to start a nest and where they go between emergence and finding a nest.

Alicia Johnston was a 28-year-old nurse at the time of the crash. She sued in 2009, seeking to recoup $21,000 in medical bills, plus additional damages for lost wages, destroyed car, and pain and suffering. Her lawyer originally submitted a settlement claim for $385,000.

She said they have not yet “determined what the focus of this investigation is.”

Investigators from South Korea were being invited to participate in the probe.

She said the team’s first job will be to collect information and document the accident scene.

The Asiana Airlines flight from Seoul, South Korea, crashed while landing at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday, critically injuring at least 10 people and forcing passengers to jump down the emergency inflatable slides to safety.

Miraculously, most of the 291 passengers were uninjured in the crash.
