Pauline E. Clouse, age 90, formerly of Purdum, NE, passed away August 1, 2013 in Crawford.
Pauline was born in a sod house in rural Logan County on December 19, 1922 to Henry and Theresa (Constant) Uphoff. She grew up in that area and after graduating from Stapleton High School earned a teaching degree through Kearney State Normal Training. She taught 10 years in rural Logan County Schools. In August 1943 she married Donal Clouse in the home of Robert and Thelma Baskin on the Diamond Bar Ranch near Stapleton. Donal and Pauline started a purebred Hereford cattle herd in the early 1950s. In 1953 they purchased the Lovelace Ranch in the Cottonwood community of northern Blaine County. In the fall of 1959 they, along with Don Spencer, began a long history of holding Production Hereford Bull sales together. The cattle were sold in 1979 due to Donal’s failing health. Growing up during the depression had a huge impact on Pauline’s life. She recycled long before it became trendy. She enjoyed attending Hereford Bull sales, playing cards, country music, and entertaining in her big home. She moved to Chadron in 1996 to be near her daughter Linda and family. On June 24, 2008 she moved to the Ponderosa Villa Nursing Home in Crawford, where she resided until her death.
Pauline is survived by daughters Linda (Larry) Teahon of Chadron; Lana (Larry) Wilson of North Platte; grandchildren JD Purdum of Valentine, Brandi (David) Dickerson of Leawood, KS, and Tyler Teahon of Purdum; 4 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Esther Dobbins of Stapleton; brother-in-laws Ivan Pooschke of Stapleton and Charles Clouse Jr. of Arnold; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donal Clouse; parents Henry and Theresa Uphoff; and brothers Arthur and Emil Uphoff.
