Robert Dale “Bob” Dorram, 81, of North Platte, NE, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at home surrounded by his family.
Bob was born August 13, 1931, to Clifford Harold and Edith Mae Hopkins Dorram in North Platte where he grew up. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1950. Bob hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad before joining the U.S. Air Force in 1951. Following his discharge in 1955, Bob returned to North Platte and the railroad.
On September 14, 1952, Bob married Shirley Ann Prather at the First Christian Church in North Platte where they made their home. Bob worked as a clerk on the railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1990.
Bob was a member of the First Christian Church and the Lincoln County Wildlife Club. He was also a life member of the PTA and a Boy Scout leader. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and loved following his grandkids and great-grandkids to their sporting events.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of North Platte; a son, Tim (Yvonne) Dorram, of Omaha, NE; two daughters, Patty (Jay) Wonch and Betty Jo Hernandez, all of North Platte; five grandchildren, Chad (Angela) Dorram, Jeremy (Kim) Wonch, Casey (Marcy) Dorram, Danielle Wonch (fiancé, Matt Bialas) and Christopher (Tiffany) Hernandez; nine great-grandchildren, Dustin, Taylor, Damion, Tylan, Briley, Levi, Turner Thomas, Haley and Mazy; a sister-in-law, Jacque Shepherd, of North Platte; several nieces, nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Edith Dorram; and three sisters, Phyllis Bahn, Charlotte Weisgerber and Marilyn Parrish
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2013, at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore with Pastor Garry Timmons officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gift of Hope or the 21st Century Veteran’s Memorial.
