(AP) — Authorities say a 33-year-old woman died after a car she was in rammed a tree in western Grand Island.
The Grand Island Independent says (http://bit.ly/17IMVff) the accident occurred a little before 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Grand Island Police Sgt. Todd Dvorak (deh-VOR’-ak) says the car was headed east on West Old Highway 30 when it left the roadway, went into a ditch and struck the tree.
The woman, who was a passenger in the car, was identified as Jamie Sandante, of Grand Island. She was declared dead at the scene.
The driver was identified as 29-year-old Johnny Alvarez.
He was flown to a Lincoln hospital and was in serious condition Monday.
