INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The NCAA has lost another round in court, this time over scholarships.
A judge in the Southern District of Indiana rejected a motion from the NCAA to dismiss a case brought by former college football player John Rock.
Rock contends that after playing three seasons at Gardner-Webb in North Carolina, a new coaching staff refused to renew his scholarship. Rock says that forced him to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket to earn his degree.
Rock says the one-year scholarship used by schools at the time and NCAA-mandated scholarship limits limited his choices. The NCAA now allows schools to offer multiyear scholarships.
