Celebrating the 100th anniversary of racing in Lexington, Nebraska; the racers did not disappoint in finishing the season in fine fashion, bringing the large crowd in attendance to their feet on championship night at Dawson County Raceway on Sunday evening.
Driving their way into the IMCA Victory Lane was Colton Osborn, Chad Dolan, Jeff Whiting, Tiffany Bittner and David Dembowski.
Working the cushion early and stepping his way down the track to the bottom of the corners in the late circuits was the winning formula for IMCA Modified rookie Colton Osborn of Cozad, Nebraska to pick-up the Feature victory. Osborn led the first twelve laps by riding around the top groove on the cushion before being edged at the line after a caution flag flew where Jeremy Herbst of North Platte, Nebraska rocketed around the bottom of the track. Osborn regained the lead on lap 15 and never looked back as he circled the oval in the low groove to notch the win. Herbst held onto the runner-up position after driving to the front from the sixth row at the drop of the green flag. Styling the Captain America colors was Jay Steffens of North Platte, and he did the cartoon hero proud with a podium finish in third place. Steffens began his journey to the podium in the third row of the starting grid.
Starting on the pole was all that Chad Dolan of Gibbon, Nebraska needed in using the clean air to cruise to his 19th IMCA Northern Sport Modified Feature victory of the season. Dolan led all 15 laps and was clutch on the restarts to hold off all challenges. Starting in the front row right next to Dolan was the runner-up Denny Egge of Kearney, Nebraska. Rounding out the top three finishers in the highly contested Northern Sport Modified feature was Bryan Herrick of Curtis, Nebraska as he started in the second row.
Leading the lap that mattered the most, Jeff Whiting of Gothenburg led by less than the length of a fender on the white flag lap, which turned into the way that the IMCA Stock Cars would finish, as a result of a big-time accident in corners one and two. Whiting hugged the inside berm for much of the contest to drive to the front from the fourth row to claim the victory that has eluded him at Dawson County Raceway. Leading the way from the onset, Casey Werkmeister of Maywood secured the season points title with his runner-up finish. Finishing his 2013 campaign at Lexington in fine fashion was Jared Brooks of Indianola with a third place finish from his seventh row starting spot.
Igniting the crowd to a full-on roar was Tiffany Bittner making the pass for the win in the IMCA Hobby Stock Feature to give the Norfolk driver a back-to-back feature winner at Dawson County Raceway. Bittner drove to second place in the early laps of the feature, following Neligh veteran driver Jason Wilkinson for the first 12 circuits, but it was on the final laps that Bittner made her move in a big way to power into the lead and record the victory. Wilkinson stayed up on the wheel and recorded the runner-up accolades. Testing the waters on the inside berm and then returning to the cushion, Dillon Thompson of Campbell rounded out the podium finishers with a third place finish.
Grabbing the lead early and never looking back, David Dembowski of Grand Island cruised to the IMCA Sport Compact Feature victory by leading from start to finish. Jacob Olmstead of Overton tried to reel in Dembowski for the whole feature and his effort to stay with the leader resulted in a second place finish. Returning to the podium at Dawson County Raceway with a successful night was Dalton Smith of Gibbon in third place overall.
