(AP) — Authorities say a man suspected of shoplifting in Hastings left an infant in a field as he fled a store employee.
The man being sought, 27-year-old Jaime Loya-Marquez, and 25-year-old Alyssa Kerr were baby-sitting the child for another Hastings woman.
Police say the Loya-Marquez and Kerr were seen taking items without paying from Allen’s Shopping Center on Monday. The two fled on foot when they were confronted by store employees.
Police say Loya-Marquez ran south, crossed a railroad track and then put down the infant in a field. A store employee stopped the chase to retrieve the baby. Officers soon captured Kerr, who’d fled north.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Loya-Marquez. Online court records don’t list the names of their attorneys.
