(AP) — The tiny mosquito all too often has man on the run. And this summer it seems even worse than usual.
Experts say it’s been a buggier-than-normal summer in many places around the U.S. because of a combination of drought, heavy rain and heat. The University of Florida’s Jonathan Day says the Southeast is getting hit with three years’ worth of bugs in one summer.
Parts of Connecticut this summer reported traps showing mosquito levels double the normal levels. In Minnesota last month, they were triple the average. And central California topped them with five times the recent average.
Experts say the mosquito population in Nebraska is slightly larger than average this year.

A 20-year-old Sutherland man is facing serious charges after he and his father allegedly assaulted a man.
According to Public Information Officer Rodney Brown with the North Platte Police Department, Officers responded to the 300 block of East 8th on August 15th at around 9:30 p.m., after they received a report of a bleeding male subject running into a residence in the area.
Officers arrived to find a 20-year-old male who had been the victim of an assault at his house in the 800 block of North Bailey.
The victim alleged that Levi Bohman and his father, 59-year-old Curt Bohman, both of Sutherland, had come to his residence and attacked him. He reported that, initially, Curt confronted him in the doorway at which time Levi struck him in the face. The attack then continued inside the home where Levi continued to punch, kick, hit and choke the victim.
Police say both Curt and Levi held the victim and prevented him from leaving.
Eventually, the victim was able to escape and run next door and into a neighbor’s residence. The owner of the residence was able to secure the front door and prevent a pursuing Levi from entering.
The Bohman’s left the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival, and the victim was transported to Great Plains Regional Medical Center where he received treatment for minor injuries to his arms, chest, head and back.
An Investigator met with Levi on August 19th regarding the incident. Following further investigation, Police found probable cause to arrest Levi and charge him with 1st Degree False Imprisonment, Strangulation, two counts of 3rd Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Criminal Trespassing, Disturbing the Peace and two counts of Child Abuse due to the fear experienced by the children who lived in the residence.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing into the role the elder Bohman played in the assault.
Levi was jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.

(AP) — The Grand Island City Council won’t vote until next week on its contribution to a legal fund aimed at keeping a Nebraska veterans home in Grand Island.
Mayor Jay Vavricek said he wants the council to discuss the matter but not vote at Tuesday night’s study session because issues and amounts have changed.
The Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce initially asked Hall County and the city of Grand Island to contribute $10,000 each, with an additional $5,000 each to come from the chamber and the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corp. The $30,000 fund was to be used in determining whether Grand Island could challenge the state decision to build a veterans home in Kearney instead of a replacement facility in Grand Island.
DENVER (AP) — Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller could be called as a witness in the death penalty murder case against a man accused of stabbing five people to death in a Denver bar in October.
Miller is among more than 100 potential witnesses in the case. He is listed as a possible acquaintance of suspect Dexter Lewis, but there is no indication Miller had ever met or knew anyone in the case.
According to the Denver Post (https://tinyurl.com/ms28m6g ), Miller could be called to testify in the sentencing phase of the trial if Lewis is found guilty.
Lewis faces 16 counts in the attack at Fero’s Bar and Grill. The charges include multiple counts of first-degree murder, felony murder, robbery and arson.
DENVER (AP) — Court records show Denver Nuggets guard Ty Lawson has been arrested on suspicion of charges including harassment.
KUSA-TV in Denver reports that according to Arapahoe County sheriff’s officials, Lawson and his girlfriend each face charges after a fight Saturday night.
The Denver Post reports Lawson was arraigned Monday. He is free on bond.
Details of the arrest weren’t immediately available Monday night.
Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly said in a written statement that the team was “fully aware” of the incident but that, per team policy and out of respect for the legal process, the team would have no further comment.
Lawson signed a four-year contract extension with the team last October. He averaged 16.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.47 steals in 73 games last season.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Von Miller is practicing with the Denver Broncos as a new report suggests the All-Pro linebacker could be facing an even longer suspension than originally thought.
ESPN, citing people it didn’t identify, reported that Miller might have to sit out at least six games for violating the league’s drug-abuse policy. In that case, Miller’s earliest possible game would be Oct. 20 at Indianapolis.
Previously, it was believed Miller was facing a possible monthlong suspension to start the 2013 season.
Miller had repeatedly expressed confidence he was going to successfully win an appeal of that penalty, insisting he had “done nothing wrong.”
(AP) — The FBI is taking an active role in training local police departments to respond to an active shooter emergency.
After last December’s Connecticut school massacre, President Barack Obama directed the FBI to work with local law enforcement to ensure a more consistent response to situations that involve mass shootings.
The bureau this year began partnering with a federally funded center in Texas that was already offering training and is now spreading the teachings around to departments around the country.
FBI field offices have also hosted conferences to discuss various challenges arising from an active shooter situation and let them know about available federal aid.
One such tactical drill occurred last week on a college campus in Salisbury, Md., where officers went through a series of role-playing exercises.
