2nd NP Man Arrested in Connection with Stolen Gun

North Platte Police have arrested another man in connection with a stolen firearm.

Timothy Leeper, 24, has been charged with a felony after Police identified him as a suspect in a theft from the 700 block of West B Street in North Platte.

Police responded to a reported theft in the 700 Block of West B on July 30th.  Through their investigation, Police identified the suspects as 24-year-old Timothy Leeper and 29-year-old Christopher Rosenberg.  Investigators say the duo stole personal property, including a firearm, from the residence.  Police soon learned that the firearm in question had been seized from a residence on North Bailey on July 17th during a search.

Rosenberg was taken into custody and charged with being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm on Monday.  On Tuesday, an Investigator met with Leeper regarding the stolen firearm.  It was determined that there was probable cause to believe Leeper had been in possession of the firearm when it was seized from the North Bailey residence.

Subsequently, Leeper was charged with Felony Possession of Stolen Property-Firearm, and booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office website did not have a bond listed for Leeper.  Rosenberg’s bond is set at 10% of $75,000.

Alcohol Containers Found in Crash That Killed Five Members of Musical Cast in Texas

texas-department-of-criminal-justice(AP) — Authorities have found empty alcohol containers amid the wreckage of a car in an accident that killed five cast and crew members of the musical drama “Texas.”

Department of Public Safety spokesman Christopher Ray said Wednesday he didn’t know if the containers were beer cans or liquor bottles or where specifically they were located.

DPS has said alcohol is suspected as a factor in Monday night’s crash when a car carrying six people ran a stop sign and collided with an 18-wheeler near Dumas.

A spokesman for an Amarillo hospital said Wednesday that Timothy Johnson of Houston, the only survivor from the car, remained in critical condition. The truck driver was stable.

Organizers canceled Wednesday performance. The show continues Thursday through Sunday to end the season.

(AP) — A Utah beauty pageant winner charged with tossing homemade bombs from a vehicle has relinquished her crown.

Kendra McKenzie Gill said she and her friends feel terrible about the incident, but she insists they were just playing a practical joke and never threw the explosives at people.

Gill and three friends were charged last week with four felony counts of possession of an explosive device.

Prosecutors say the 18-year-olds drove around town Aug. 2 and tossed plastic bottles of toilet bowl cleaner and shrapnel at people and property.

Nobody was injured.

Gill topped a slate of nine beauty contestants earlier this summer to become Miss Riverton.

She said knew she’d probably have the title revoked, and wanted to step down before it was taken from her.

Heineman says the delegation will receive an update on a 2010 trade agreement signed with Taiwanese officials. The agreement was worth an estimated $450 million in sales of corn, soybeans and wheat.

Pine Ridge Alcohol Vote Too Close to Call

oglala-tribe(AP) — A vote on whether to end prohibition and allow alcohol on South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is too close to call because of a high number of challenged ballots.

Tribal spokeswoman Tony Red Cloud says the measure got a majority of yes votes in the unofficial count — 1,645 to 1,494. But tribal president Bryan Brewer says because 438 votes were challenged — more than the difference — the outcome of the election won’t be known until those are checked.

He says in the next couple of days, election workers will verify that the people who cast those challenged ballots were enrolled members living on the reservation.

Brewer says vote challenges rarely change an election’s outcome.

A Chadron woman will stand trial during the December jury term of Dawes County District Court for allegedly slashing 3 of her family members with a box cutter during last month’s Fur Trade Days celebration.

The case of 47-year old Sherlynn Lame had been bound over on 3 counts of 2nd degree assault and 3 counts of the use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony following a preliminary hearing last month in County Court and formally entered pleas of not guilty in District Court on Tuesday.

Lame was arrested early on the morning of July 13th and remains in the Dawes County jail on $50,000 bond. Her pre-trial conference is scheduled for November 11th.

Court documents show Lame and her extended family were together when a disagreement escalated and she allegedly slashed 3 male family members with a box cutter. Two were taken by ambulance to the hospital, where they were treated and released.
