Chargers-Raiders Game Moved To Night

nfl_logo2011-medALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — This weekend’s game between the San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders has been moved to a night game because of the baseball playoffs.

The Raiders said Monday that kickoff for Sunday’s game will be at 8:35 p.m. PDT instead of the originally scheduled 1:25 p.m. game time.

The reason for the switch is the Oakland Athletics are playing Game 2 of their division series on Saturday night and it takes too long to convert the Coliseum from baseball to football to play an afternoon game. The Raiders are the only NFL team that still plays in a stadium shared by a Major League Baseball team.

The game will be televised by NFL Network instead of CBS.

5 Hikers Killed by Colorado Rock Slide

ambulance(AP) — Five hikers were killed by a rock slide on a trail in south-central Colorado on Monday, and another was pulled out with injuries and flown to a hospital, authorities said.

The Chaffee (CHAY’-fee) County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the deaths and said recovery would wait until Tuesday to make sure the area is safe.

The slide occurred at about 11 a.m. on the trail to Agnes Vaille (VAYL) falls in the Pike and San Isabel National Forest, an easy day hike about a 2 1/2 hour drive southwest of Denver.

A 13-year-old girl who survived the slide was flown to a hospital in Denver for treatment. There was no immediate identification of the victims.

A North Platte man is facing drug charges following a traffic stop Sunday afternoon.

According to a North Platte Police Department (NPPD) news release, a NPPD Officer was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Birchwood and South Buffalo Bill at around 4:20 p.m., Sunday, when he observed Taylor Trembly traveling southbound on a motorcycle.   The Officer had reason to believe Trembly had a revoked license.

The Officer contacted Trembly as he parked the unlicensed bike on Cedarberry Lane.  Police say Trembly was detained due to a past flight to avoid arrest involving him and the Officer on scene.

Police confirmed that Trembly’s Nebraska Operator’s license was revoked and placed him under arrest.  Following a search incident to arrest, the Officer discovered a small baggie containing suspected methamphetamine near where Trembly had been seated in the patrol car.  A field test of the substance confirmed the Officer’s suspicions.

Trembly was arrested and charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Driving Under Revocation.

He was jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center.

(AP) — The Nebraska tax commissioner is resigning to take a new job with a national tax, audit and advisory firm.

Doug Ewald (EE’–wawld) said Monday that he’ll be leaving his state job on Oct. 18 to join KPMG. He says he’ll lead KPMG’s state and local tax practice in the Omaha area.

Gov. Dave Heineman’s office announced Ewald’s intention to resign, saying Ewald has been instrumental in helping move the Department of Revenue forward though the enhanced use of technology.

Ewald was appointed commissioner in November 2006 after 19 years in the private sector.

Heineman spokeswoman Sue Roush says it hasn’t yet been determined whether Heineman will name a replacement before Ewald’s departure.

Naked Man Flashes Wedding Guests in Lincoln

lincoln-police(AP) — A man who stripped naked within view of wedding guests at a Lincoln church has been cited.

Lincoln police spokeswoman Katie Flood says the incident occurred Saturday outside St. Mary’s Catholic Church across from the state Capitol.

Witnesses told officers a man who wasn’t invited to the wedding pulled up in a pickup and stopped outside the church. He got out with a head of lettuce and said he was going to feed the animals.

Flood says the man got back in the truck, drove 50 yards down the street and stopped before getting out and undressing. She says he’d gotten back into his truck by the time officers arrived.

The man was cited for driving the wrong direction on a one-way street and arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure.

Missouri Couple Accused in Wyoming of Killing Exes, 2 Kids

crime-scene(AP) — Wyoming authorities say a Missouri couple have been arrested in the deaths of their ex-spouses and two children more than 30 years ago.

Officials said Monday that 71-year-old Gerald Uden and 74-year-old Alice Louise Uden of Chadwick, Mo., face first-degree-murder charges in Wyoming.

Gerald Uden is accused of killing his ex-wife, 32-year-old Virginia Uden, and her two children, 12-year-old Richard Uden and 10-year-old Reagan Uden. All disappeared in 1980.

Authorities didn’t say whether Gerald Uden was the children’s father or where the killings occurred.

Alice Uden is accused of killing her ex-husband, 25-year-old Ronald Holtz, who disappeared in 1974 or 1975. Authorities say Holtz’s remains were recently found in an abandoned Wyoming mine.

Gerald and Alice Uden are in custody in Missouri while Wyoming authorities attempt to extradite them.

Platte River Flooding Slowly Ending in Nebraska

floodzone(AP) — Flooding along the Platte and South Platte rivers in Nebraska should end early this week, but officials say the water contaminated with bacteria and debris could still pose a health risk for weeks.

Although the rivers surged to record heights last week, the flooding did little major damage in the state. The National Weather Service predicts that the last minor flooding should end near Kearney and Grand Island on Tuesday.

But the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality says levels of E. coli bacteria in the water remain high, so testing will continue for at least a couple more weeks.

Nebraskans are being advised not to drink any of the river water.

The timing of the flood is fortunate because fewer people are out on the water this time of year.

Equipment Stolen from Elkhorn Fire Department

firedpt(AP) — Police say more than $30,000 worth of equipment has been stolen from a fire station in eastern Nebraska.

Omaha police say an external storage unit at an Elkhorn fire station was broken into between Thursday night and early Friday.

Several items were taken, including a thermal imaging camera valued at $6,000.

Authorities are asking the public for any help that may lead to arrests in the case.

Federal Shutdown Would Hit Neb. Farm Agencies, Parks

homestead-national-monument(AP) — Federal agencies in Nebraska are bracing for a government shutdown that could force the closure of Farm Service Agencies and national parks, including the Homestead National Monument of America.

Monument superintendent Mark Engler said Monday that officials have notified several school groups that the park near Beatrice might have close on scheduled visiting days. The park was expected to host more than 500 fourth-graders this week from nine public schools and three parochial schools.

Engler says the park will continue to have utilities and security staff on site if the government shuts down, but all other employees will have to stay home.

The shutdown could also mean service delays within Nebraska’s Farm Service Agency offices. The agency has 73 offices in Nebraska in addition to its state office.
