Sheriff Kramer Says LCSO Willing to House State Inmates

LCSO-Badge(AP) — The county sheriff is more than willing to handle part of the Nebraska state prison overflow at the Lincoln County jail.

The idea of housing some state inmates in county jails arose last month as some legislators looked at ways to solve prison overcrowding without building another prison.

Lincoln County Sheriff Jerome Kramer said he would “strongly entertain” the idea. Kramer says there’s already some room available in the jail, and it was built in a way to facilitate expansion.

The jail is a moneymaker. Kramer says that in fiscal 2013, the jail made $100,000 from housing inmates from other counties.
