Myra Matilda Taylor, 98, originally of Gothenburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Cozad.

Myra was born to Andrew P. and Sophia Bergstrom Shostrom August 8, 1915 on the farm in Custer County and attended rural elementary school at District 161, the “Shostrom School” near her home. She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1933. In 1955 she married Ralph Taylor and they were later divorced. She lived in Gothenburg most of her adult life. She often fondly talked about doing housekeeping for several families during those years. For many years she was a caretaker for her brother, and during that time she enjoyed other family members joining them for birthday dinners.

Myra loved music. She played the clarinet in the Gothenburg High School band in the early thirties. And all her life she loved to play the piano so much that the black keys on her piano were all worn down. She enjoyed having a beautiful lawn, and many people remember seeing her still raking leaves when she was in her 90s. She liked to read and had many books. When she was no longer able to read her Bible she asked other family members to read to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Elmer, her sisters Bessie (Henry) Kuhlman and Lillian Shostrom.

Survivors include two nephews, Willard (Marjorie) Kuhlman of Gothenburg and Brian Kuhlman of DeFuniack Springs, Florida and one niece, Joan Johnson of Aurora, Colorado. Grandnephews Jeff and Terry Johnson, Kirk, Phil and Daniel Kuhlman and one grandniece, Marsha Herlevi, and 3 great great grand nephews and 4 great grandnieces and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Friday, September 27, 2013 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 until 7:00.
