Huskers to Have Minimum of 23 Regular-Season Games on National TV

Nebraska-Huskers-BasketballLincoln – The Nebraska basketball program will have a minimum of 23 nationally televised games during the upcoming regular season, as BTN and the Big Ten Digital Network (BTDN) announced the remainder of its 2013-14 schedule on Thursday.

Nebraska’s game with Arkansas State on Dec. 14, will now be carried on BTN with a tipoff from Pinnacle Bank Arena slated for 3 p.m. This is the second non-conference game on BTN’s schedule, joining the opener against Florida Gulf Coast on Nov. 8 (8 p.m.), while 12 Big Ten Conference matchups were announced on Wednesday.

In addition to the 14 BTN games, Nebraska will have seven games on the ESPN family of networks, while the final two games of the Charleston Classic could also be televised and NU will make one appearance on Fox Sports 1 (Dec. 8 at Creighton). In addition, the Huskers’ game against Purdue at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Feb. 23, will be shown on either CBS or BTN, as it was selected as one of the wildcard games for the weekend of Feb. 22-23.

During non-conference play, Nebraska will have three home televised games (FGCU, Miami, Arkansas State) while the rest of the Huskers’ non-conference home games, including the exhibition game against Nebraska-Kearney on Nov. 4, will be shown live online on BTDN. That includes existing distribution agreements with each of the nation’s 10 largest cable, satellite and telco providers (Comcast, DIRECTV, Dish Network, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Charter Communications, Verizon FiOS, Bright House Networks and AT&T U-Verse).

Cable subscribers inside the Big Ten states, including Nebraska, receive the network on either an expanded basic or digital basic level of service. Outside the Big Ten states, cable operators that carry the network make it available on a variety of packages.

In addition, fans can listen to the Husker Sports Network, as every game is carried on the 27-station network featuring Kent Pavelka and Matt Davision. In Lincoln, the flagship stations is KLIN (1400 AM/94.5 FM), while KFAB (1110 AM) is the network flagship in Omaha.

The Huskers, under second-year Coach Tim Miles, return three starters from a team that went 15-18 in his first season, including guard Ray Gallegos and forwards David Rivers and Shavon Shields. Gallegos, who averaged 12.5 ppg in 2012-13, led the Big Ten in 3-pointers per game and ranked second in school history with 83 3-pointers, while Shields averaged 8.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game as a true freshman, while Rivers started NU’s final 17 games at forward and averaged 5.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. In all, nine letterwinners return for the Huskers in 2013-14, while eight newcomers, including three redshirts, will suit up for the Scarlet and Cream this season.
