Faith Fisher, 77, of North Platte, NE, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.

She was born Iola Faith on June 11, 1936, to Guy Charles and Grace Rose Slechta Fisher at Vail, IA where she grew up and attended school. She later graduated with a degree in education from Buena Vista College in Iowa. Faith taught in Ida Grove, IA and Montana before moving to North Platte in 1984. She taught for the North Platte Public Schools for nearly 30 years before retiring from McDonald Elementary School in 2003 where she had been teaching 5th grade. She loved books, teaching and her students.

Faith was a private person who didn’t like crowds but loved a good laugh. She was a member of the Lincoln County Extension Board and the Lincoln County Historical Society. She had a passion for anything historical and loved going to museums, learning about history and sharing her knowledge with others. She also enjoyed plants and gardening and was a member of the UNL Extension Master Gardener’s. Faith combined history and gardening as she planted and tended the Seven Sisters’ Garden at the Lincoln County Historical Museum.

After taking a trip back East this past June, Faith finally completed her goal of having put her feet in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. In her own words she says, “Good-bye everyone and to the world.”

She is survived by a sister, Kathryn McCullough, of Denison, IA; her cousins including Shirley and husband, Robert Tschantz, of Springville, IA; a nephew, Shawn McCullough; and other family and her friends.

Faith was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Grace.

Graveside funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013, in the Plainview Cemetery, south of Maxwell with Rev. Dr. Douglas A. Delp officiating. According to her wishes the casket will be closed. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements.
