Alberdale “Al” Hovey, 88, of North Platte, NE, died Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
Al was born December 2, 1924, to Alton S. and Martha Jane Olinger Hovey at Hershey, NE. He grew up in Hershey and moved to Stockville, NE at the age of 15 where he graduated from high school.
On November 14, 1948, Al married Burnell May Kramer at North Platte. They lived in Texas and Stockville, NE before moving to North Platte in 1951. Al worked at the University of Nebraska Experiment Station, Bain’s Dairy and the North Platte Public School System. In 1970 he went to work for Mid-Plains Community College and retired from there. Al enjoyed the many friends he had at the college and was always dedicated to his work.
He attended First Assembly of God Church and was active in church activities when he was a young man and throughout his life. He liked sports and coached his kids in baseball. Al loved music and singing, people and socializing. He also enjoyed the services at the North Platte Care Center.
Survivors include four sons, Larry Hovey, Dale Hovey and Gary (Carol) Hovey, all of North Platte and Terry (Linda) Hovey, of Plattsmouth, NE; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; his sister, Velma Garman, of Lakeview, OR; many nieces, nephews and other family and his many friends.
Al was preceded in death by his wife, Burnell; a daughter, Linda Kay Hovey; two daughters-in-law, Lola Hovey and Millie Hovey; his parents, Alton and Martha; a brother, Louis Hovey; his sister, Burnell Collins; and three grandsons, Michael and Alberdale Eugene Hovey and Dallas Mulford.
Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Odean Colonial Chapel At C & Sycamore. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013, at the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Gary Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow in the North Platte Cemetery.
