Lincoln Officials Working on Travel Options for Residents

bike_traisl(AP) — Lincoln officials have been working on a plan to promote travel options for residents.

The goal is to keep more cars and trucks off city streets because more people are riding bikes, taking buses or sharing rides to work or school.

More than 80 percent of Lincoln residents drive alone to work, a rate that has risen over the past 20 years.

A new travel options draft report says only biking has seen an increase as a travel mode, likely because of the city’s extensive trail system.

The report also says funding could be a problem. The plan could cost an estimated $184,000 the first year and $328,000 by the fifth year.
