Robert Lee “Bob” Knoll, 80, of North Platte, NE, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

Bob was born May 15, 1933, to Vernard “Mike” and Sylvia Edith Oliver Knoll at North Platte. He grew up in McPherson County, NE 17 miles north of Ringold, NE. He and his twin brother, Vernard, attended a one room country school right in their yard. They were the only two kids in school until the 5th grade. Bob graduated from the University School of Agriculture in Curtis, NE in 1952.

On October 26, 1957, Bob married Mary Arlene Karre at North Platte. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX, Fort Carson, CO and Fort Huachuca, AZ. Following his discharge Bob and Arlene moved to North Platte where he went to work for Glen Peterson north of town. In the spring of 1961 they moved to the Experiment Station south of town where he worked in the Swine Department. Bob hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad in 1969 as a Carman and retired from there in 1998.

The family moved northwest of Hershey, NE in September 1969 then moved again in the spring of 1974 to a new home they built 10 miles southeast of Hershey. This is where he and Arlene own and operate the Knoll’s Country Inn Bed & Breakfast.

Bob was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene, of North Platte; four sons, Darren (Silja) Knoll, of Berthoud, CO, Klynn Knoll, of Central City, NE, Brent (significant other, Sarah Reimer), of Miami, FL and Karry (Lisa) Knoll, of St. Paul, MN; two daughters, Geralyn (Alan) Lamb, of Seminole, FL and Kendra (Tim) Betts, of Hershey, NE; nine grandchildren, Kilah, Kamry, Kenzey, Hazel, Anya, Jack, Madeline, Ariel and Ezekiel; two sisters, Leora (Keith) Messersmith, of Farnam, NE and Betty Knoll, of Cozad, NE; and other family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike, Sr. and Sylvia; and his twin brother, Vernard, Jr.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6 to 7 p.m. followed by a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday October 17, 2013, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Neal Hock celebrating.
