(AP) — A quick-thinking dispatcher has helped Beatrice police find a stricken woman who couldn’t speak but could knock.

Dispatcher Chandra Crooks took the 911 call Friday evening. Crooks could hear only what sounded like muffled crying and a banging noise. The caller didn’t respond to questions until Crooks said, “If you can hear me, knock twice.”

Two knocks came in response.

The caller then knocked twice in answer to some of the questions Crooks posed to narrow down where the caller was. Another dispatcher analyzed maps and a police sergeant relayed information to officers.

After 13 minutes, officers finally found the caller in an apartment. The middle-age woman appeared to have suffered a stroke. She was taken to a hospital.
