(AP) — Creighton University delayed a ticket giveaway to a Macklemore & Ryan Lewis concert after some students raised concerns about the musicians’ support for gay marriage.
The Catholic Student Organization objected and some students wrote to the student newspaper after learning that the Creighton Student Union Program Board planned to give away 50 to 75 vouchers for a concert by the rap group Tuesday at CenturyLink Center Omaha.
The students noted the group’s song “Same Love” supports gay marriage. Since the Catholic Church opposes gay marriage, the students argued the Catholic university shouldn’t support performers who produce such a song.
University officials delayed the giveaway Wednesday before deciding to let it go ahead.
