Musketeers Score Two In Each Frame, Top Storm

tcstormSIOUX CITY, Ia. – The Sioux City Musketeers (9-2-1) scored two goals in each period and defeated the Tri-City Storm (4-6-2) 6-1 at the Tyson Events Center on Saturday night.

Forward Ross Olsson scored his first goal of the season for Tri-City in the loss, while defenseman Jalen Schulz got his first point of the year, picking up an assist on the lone Storm goal of the night.

The Musketeers got ahead with an early goal by Trevor Olson, but took control of the game when Cedric LaCroix deflected a puck into the Storm net with only one-tenth of a second remaining on the clock. Sioux City had themselves a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission and never looked back from there.

In the beginning of the middle period Tri-City had their chances against Musketeer goaltender Kyle Hayton, but the Storm were unable to convert on their opportunities.

At 9:15 of the second Waltteri Hopponen scored his first goal of the season for Sioux City and then Brandon Hawkins followed that up with his ninth tally of the season at 16:07. The Muskies had opened up the game and taken a 4-0 lead.

Tri-City got some life just over a minute later however, when forward Chris Wilkie made a nice pass and found Olsson open in the offensive zone on a rush. The Billerica, Mass. native made a nice deke to get Hayton out of position and backhanded a shot to the top right corner of the net for his first goal in a Storm uniform. Schulz, who initiated the play, passing to Wilkie, was credited with the second assist.

But the Storm were unable to get any closer and allowed a goal to Jake Montgomery just 19 seconds into the final period. With that, Storm head coach Josh Hauge elected to switch goaltenders, taking out starter Jacob Johansson in favor of Hayden Lavigne.

Lavigne made seven saves during his 19 minutes in net, but allowed one final goal to Olson, his second of the night.

Johansson finished with 13 saves, while Hayton made 30 stops for the Musketeers.

The Storm will return home on Nov. 8 to face the Omaha Lancers at the Viaero Event Center. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.
Notes: The Storm scratched forwards Austin Poganski, Joey DiBenedetto, Chase McMurphy and Ryan McMurphy. Forward Drew Mayer was also scratched, serving a suspension.…
