The No. 16 North Platte Community College Lady Knights basketball team (1-1) fell to Fort Carson Saturday afternoon 64-58.
The Lady Knights started the game off strong as they would take a 39-27 lead into the locker room after they held Fort Carson to only 20.5 percent shooting. In the second half the Lady Knights would struggle to score as they only scored 19 points to Fort Carson’s 37. The Lady Knights shot 62.5 percent from the field in the first half compared to 28.6 percent in the second half.
The Lady Knights were led by April Stull who finished with a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Stephanie Casteel and DaVontaye Merritt each scored nine points for the Lady Knights. Fort Carson was led by both Chuckie Jeffrie and Angela Goodman who each scored 21 points.
“It was a good test for us before we go to Norfolk next week,” said assistant coach Nolan Collins. “We need to work on putting two halves together.”
The Lady Knights return to action next weekend as they travel to Norfolk for the Hawks Classic where they will face Des Moines Area Community College and Iowa Lakes Community College on November 8 and 9. The Lady Knights next home game is November 19 at 5 p.m. as they host Northeast Community College.
