Edward Jack Tighe


TIGHE, EDWARD

Edward J. Tighe, 91, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He was born March 23, 1922 to Jack C. and Minnie (Plessel) Tighe in Omaha, NE. He graduated from Tech High in Omaha before enlisting in the Army. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, where he served as a Signal Corps Staff Sergeant with the 6th and 8th Armies in the South Pacific. He also served as a Field Artillery 1st Lieutenant in Alaska during the Korean War.
He married Jacqueline (Jackie) Mae Williams on August 13, 1945. They were blessed with four children, Patti Ann (Peter) Shearston, Michael E. (Donna) Tighe, Steven A. (Susan) Tighe and Barbara E. (Jim Moore) Tighe. He worked as a Regional Supervisor for Western Electric, retiring in 1977. For a number of years he helped to organize and participated in the Nebraskaland Days Shoot Out and had been a member of the American Legion.
Ed is survived by his wife, Jackie; his children; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and his sister, Jeanette Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Les and a great-grandson, R.J. Alwin.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 5 from 1:00pm to 7:00pm, with family receiving friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2013 at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Private family burial will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery with military honors graveside. Carpenter Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
