LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Lincoln man has been accused of severely beating his 6-month-old son.
Lincoln police charged 22-year-old Anthony Joseph Souza on Monday with felony child abuse in connection with an incident on Dec. 1. He was arrested Friday.
The boy’s mother called 911 to her apartment and police found the boy limp and unresponsive.
Souza told police he was carrying the baby and lost his grip and dropped him. Authorities say the boy’s severe injuries were not consistent with that account.
Investigators say they believe Souza threw his son against a door frame and closet.
A message left with the Lancaster County public defender’s office was not immediately returned Monday.
