LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A task force is recommending that Lincoln and Lancaster County consolidate its government services.

The suggestion comes out of a 10-month study that was finished on Friday. The group suggests that both governments should set a long-term goal of merging to increase efficiency and cut costs.

The study was originally intended to find efficiencies and cost savings in law enforcement, infrastructure, legal matters and clerical work. But after looking at the services, task force members say the governments should look at combining all services.

The committee says the idea will require additional study, and any proposed changes should be explained to the public.
