KEARNEY, Neb. (AP) — An archway monument and museum that straddles Interstate 80 at Kearney in central Nebraska has been renamed.
Known since its opening in 2000 as the Great Platte River Road Archway, the monument is being renamed simply, “The Archway.”
The board of directors for the Great Platte River Road Memorial Foundation announced the change Tuesday.
The foundation says the name change is one of many steps that will be taken over the coming months to rebrand the facility.
The archway museum commemorates the Oregon, Mormon and California trails that pioneers used and honors the nation’s highway systems and railroads. The museum has struggled with disappointing attendance since opening in 2000.
