In their teens, during WWII, Zalia and her twin sister Zatha, delivered Western Union telegrams. They shared a bicycle and were instructed to never leave a telegram if only one person was at home. She married Russell David Reynolds on April 15, 1948 in their pastor’s parsonage when David was home on leave from the Navy. They lived in North Platte, Scottsbluff and Longmont, CO. She was a longtime member of the Nazarene Church, teaching Sunday School and serving youth and teen groups wherever she lived. She was a stay-at-home mom, but with seven children she never really stayed at home! Once they started driving, she stayed home more, mostly on her knees in prayer, as she had six sons!
