Neb. Man Gets Probation in Wife’s ATV Death

gavel-and-scalePONCA, Neb. (AP) — A northeast Nebraska man has been sentenced to two years’ probation for an ATV wreck that killed his wife.

37-year-old Clinton Brown, of Newcastle, had earlier pleaded no contest in Dixon County Court to one count of willful reckless driving.

He was also sentenced Tuesday to 200 hours of community service with agencies dealing with drunken driving issues or traffic deaths. His driver’s license also was suspended for 30 days.

Authorities say Brown was driving the ATV on June 8, 2012, that crashed on a county road between Ponca and Newcastle, killing his wife, 34-year-old Melissa Brown, who was riding on the ATV.

Sheriff Dean Chase said Brown told investigators he was speeding and that a vehicle ran him off the gravel road.
