A North Platte woman who evidently needed a new purse for her collection bagged a felony charge instead.
At around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, officers with the North Platte Police Department responded to Casey’s, 2421 Rodeo Road, on the report of a theft.
Employees at the store alleged that the suspect, 45-year-old Donna Elliott, came into the store to purchase a soda. While in the store, Elliott allegedly to a P&G Collection leather purse valued at around $40.00.
The next evening, officers responded back to Casey’s after employees reported that Elliott was back in the store.
An officer met with Elliott at her residence next-door to the store and, following further investigation, determined there was probable cause to arrest her for felony theft by shoplifting. The charge is a felony due to prior theft convictions.
Elliott was jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center.
