Ivan Knox

Ivan Knox, 84, of North Platte left his earthly body behind on Dec. 10, 2013 at Linden Court in North Platte.
Ivan was born the youngest of 7 to Paul and Edith Knox June 26, 1929 in Custer County Nebraska. He graduated from Ansley High School in 1947. After high school, Ivan worked in Ansley as a carpenter with his father Paul Knox. Ivan moved to Mansfield Ohio in the early 1950’s where he worked for Reece Optical. He returned to Nebraska in the late 1950’s eventually moving to Kearney where he met his bride Alice Oltmans LPN of Filley Nebraska. Ivan and Alice were married on June 2, 1962. They moved to North Platte later in 1962 when Ivan started a new job as manager for Rite-Style Optical. He continued to work for Rite-Style until his retirement in 1996. Ivan and Alice raised 4 children in North Platte; Daniel, Phyllis, Randall, and William. After retiring from the optical business, Ivan worked part-time as a van driver for The Sands motel. Most of his retirement years were dedicated to caring for Alice, his grandchildren, and his North Platte home.
Ivan was active in North Platte Community Theater, Nebraskaland Days Frontier Review, SPEBSQSA, Elks Club, Eagles Club, and First Lutheran Church.
Ivan was a champion bowler, an avid golfer, an accomplished pool player, an entertainer, a gardener, a blood donor, a Husker fan, a devoted father, a fun grandpa, and a tireless caregiver to his bride Alice.
In addition to his wife and children, Ivan is survived by his sister Lola Brown, daughter-in-law Lesley Knox, 7 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ivan was preceded in death by parents Paul and Edith, brothers Clyde and Orville, and sisters Roma, Neita, and Pauline.
Please join us on Saturday Dec. 28, 2013 @ 11am for Ivan’s memorial/life celebration at First Lutheran Church in North Platte.
Internment will be at the Ansley Cemetery in the warmth of spring.
Memorial donations are suggested to The Salvation Army or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Those wishing to sign the register book may do so 9:00 a.m. until 5:00p.m. Thursday and Friday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
