Man Shot During Lincoln Gunfight Gets Prison

matthew-guerraLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A Lincoln man wounded in a July 4 gunfight last year has been sentenced to prison.

Online court records say 19-year-old Matthew Guerra on Monday was given 20 to 35 years for attempted discharge of a firearm near a building and five to 10 years for attempted use of a firearm to commit a felony. Guerra had pleaded no contest to both charges.

Police say the gunfight erupted after a motorist hit an 8-year-old boy lighting a firework in the street. The boy’s father, 41-year-old Orlando Sifuentez, was fatally wounded when he and other family members confronted Robert Robinson, the man they believed had hit the boy.

Robinson later was jailed for reckless driving.

The boy was treated at a local hospital for a busted lip.
