Ret. Lt. Col. Robert Reed Johnson, age 65 of North Platte, passed away Thursday January 9, 2014.
Bob was born on January 23, 1948 in North Platte to Robert Wolfe and Louise Marie (Reed) Johnson. He grew up in North Platte and graduated from high school in 1966. He then went on to Creighton University, graduating in 1970. He entered the US Army and served in Germany, where he met his wife, Snezana “Nina” Peric. They were married on November 11, 1972 in Buren, Germany. The couple lived in Buren before coming back to the states. Still with the military, they lived in Alabama, Terra Haute, IN, and Ames, IA. Bob retired from the military at Ames as a Lieutenant Colonel. After the military he worked for John Deere as an engineer. He also worked as a vice president in the automotive industry, living in Massachusetts, Utah, and Wisconsin and finally North Platte. He was a member of the Grace Community Bible Church and the Lake Maloney Golf Course. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and golf and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife Snezana “Nina” of North Platte; siblings Lynda Johnson of North Platte, Dan (Sherry) Johnson of Phoenix, AZ, Jerry (Lyuba) Johnson of North Platte; aunt Evelyn Reed of North Platte; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and uncles Bernard and Jim.
Memorials may be made to the Callaghan Cancer Center and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Monday January 13, 2014 at Grace Community Bible Church with Reverend Mike Wing officiating. Burial will follow at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday, January 11th and 12th, from noon until 6:00 p.m. at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
