(AP) — A Gretna woman facing tax evasion charges in Sarpy County for allegedly embezzling money now faces felony charges in Douglas County.
54-year-old Caroline Richardson was booked Friday on three counts of felony theft in connection with the embezzlement case. Additional information was not available.
Richardson is accused of embezzling more than $4 million between 2010 and 2011 from the tobacco and candy business she worked for. Colombo Candy and Tobacco Wholesale Co declined to press charges against her, but the Nebraska Department of Revenue and the Sarpy County attorney pursued the tax evasion charges.
Investigators say Richardson manipulated inventory and financial records to hide transactions into three personal bank accounts.
A message left for Richardson’s attorney was not immediately returned Saturday.
