Gary George Marshall, 77, of North Platte, NE, died Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Great Plains Medical Center in North Platte.
Gary was born January 13, 1936, to Newell Taft and Theo Davis Marshall at Minersville, UT. He grew up in Minersville and graduated from there. Gary served in the U.S. Army during 1960 then returned to Utah where he hired on with the Union Pacific Railroad in Milford.
On April 5, 1960, Gary married Doris Mae Beitz at Ely, NV and they made their home in Milford until 1969 when Gary was transferred to North Platte with the railroad and worked as a Carman. He retired from there in 1996 due to health concerns.
During his retirement years, Gary played a lot of golf and helped out at Indian Meadows Golf Course. He loved being with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids and playing card games with his family.
Gary is survived by his daughters, Tammy (Todd) Peterson, of North Platte and Vickey (Charles) Callen, of Littleton, CO; four sons, Chris Marshall, of Gothenburg, NE, Todd (Sherry) Marshall, of Illinois, Rick (Deb) Dalton, of Grand Island and Brad Dalton, of Caliente, NV; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Kim (Laurie) Marshall, of North Platte; three sisters, Elinor Beeson, of Beaver, UT, Nancy (Cliff) Yardley, of Mesa, AZ and Sheri (Bill) Garrett; a sister-in-law, Vie Marshall, of Minersville; several nieces, nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his parents, Newell and Theo; a sister, Stanie Myers; and two brothers, Tex and Don.
Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with his brother, Bishop Kim Marshall, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore.
