Marion Fredrick “Chico” Holmes, 65, of North Platte, NE, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at home surrounded by his family.
Chico was born February 17, 1948, to Thelma Eloise Holmes Keys at North Platte where he grew up. He attended Buffalo School and North Platte High School. Chico later moved to Omaha, NE where he worked for a meat packing house. He met Barb Holmes and they married in 1986.
Chico returned to North Platte in 1991 where he met Tonia Plunk and they raised Kizzie, Brandon, Jessie, Tommy, Francisco and Anthony. Chico liked to spend time with his grandkids and had a big heart. He especially loved his nephews, Preston Keys, Bobby Keys, Braka Keys and Bobbie Deuerlein. Chico was close to his sister, Mary Miles, and they have a deep bond that no one can separate.
Chico liked to help others and had to do one good deed a day. He also liked to BBQ, cook, camp, fish and fix cars. He enjoyed hanging out at the Alamo Bar with Glen Hicks, Martin Sellers, Rick Smith, Fred Nabry, Bob Grandel and LeRoy Sellers. Chico was also friends with the Westenders of North Platte.
Chico is survived by his significant other, Tonia Plunk; his children, Brandon (Tara) Holmes, Jessie (Sara) Plunk, Francisco (Angel) Plunk, Anthony (Misty) Plunk, Will Hicks, Don (Amber) Morrissey and Kizzie (Shane) Ross, all of North Platte, Tommy (Holly) Plunk, of Lincoln, NE, Tabora (Michelle) Baker, Chico (Rhonda) Baker and Tonya (Ralph) Mitchell, all of Sioux City, IA; two sisters, Mary Miles and her daughter, Tina, and Precious Miller, all of North Platte; and a brother, Raymond (Chadie) Holmes, of Lincoln.
He is also survived by his 28 grandchildren, Siera, Natalya, O’Shea, Brandon, Jr., Dominick, Deaundrey, Heaven, Jessie, Jr., Bliss, Izayah, D’Avion, Isaiah, Elijah, Monique, Carlos, Tabora, Jr., Anthony, Jedci, George, Jeremiah; Sharae, Jesse, Daygon, Cerina, Anika, Denaya, Maggie and Jalyssa; many nieces, nephews and other family and his many friends.
Chico was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma; two sisters, Dee Kramer and Edna Keys; and five brothers, Clay Ryan, Bubba Holmes, Big Chico Holmes, Glen Holmes and Eddie Keys.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore. The memorial book may be signed at odeanchapel.com or prior to services at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements.
