The SPVA basketball tournaments for both the boys and girls have gotten off to a fast start at North Platte Community College’s McDonald-Belton Gymnasium.
Monday was the opening day of the tournament for the girls. Fourth-seeded Sutherland beat No. 5 Maxwell 47-33 to advance to the semifinals against No. 1 North Platte St. Patrick’s. The second game on Monday night featured the SPVA newcomer Kimball against the sixth-seeded Perkins County. No. 3 Kimball earned the win 52-31. In Monday’s nightcap No. 2 Hershey beat Chase County to advance and play Kimball in Thursday’s semifinals.
The boys tournament began on Tuesday with fourth-seeded Sutherland beating fifth-seeded Perkins County 48-43 in a hard-fought battle. Game two once again saw the newcomer Kimball earn a victory. No. 3 Kimball beat sixth-seeded Maxwell 58-31. The nightcap featured No. 2 Chase County beating No. 7 Hershey 60-29.
Sutherland will face No. 1 North Platte St. Patrick’s in the semifinals and Kimball will play Chase County.
