Saturday, January 25
John Higgins Lexington Invitational
The North Platte Bulldogs wrestling team competed in the John Higgins Invitational in Lexington on Saturday and placed seventh with 112.5 points. Bennington won the tournament with 182.5 points.
The Dawgs had eight wrestlers place in the tournament. Shawn Roblee was the only North Platte wrestler to reach the finals en route to a second place finish at 152 pounds. Dylan Petersen placed third at 132 pounds, Alex Guerra finished fourth at 106 pounds, David Mata took fourth at 120 pounds, Colton Thompson placed fourth at 138 pounds, Alek Morales placed fourth at 285 pounds, Aaron Houser took fifth at 126 pounds and Austin Matthews placed sixth at 145 pounds.
Mullen Invite
The Hershey Panthers wrestling team competed at the Mullen Invite on Saturday and placed sixth with 78 points. Plainview won the tournament with 186 points.
The Panthers had three wrestlers place and all three of them made it to the finals. Lane Richardson won the tournament at 285 pounds with two pins and tech pin. Tucker Hicks placed second at 106 pounds and Chayton Crow took second at 138 pounds.
Friday, January 24
Gothenburg Invitational
The St. Patrick’s Irish and Gothenburg Swedes competed in the Gothenburg Invitational dual tournament on Friday. Gothenburg placed fourth in its home invite and St. Pat’s finished in fifth. Sargen/Burwell won the tournament.
St. Pat’s went 1-4 in the tournament. The Irish lost to Broken Bow 51-28, then lost to High Plains 39-30, then lost to Sargent/Burwell 60-24, before beating Ainsworth 34-27, then losing the final dual to Gothenburg 44-26. Nate Chrisman went undefeated in the tournament at 120 pounds with a pin and a major decision win.
The Swedes went 2-3 in the tournament. Gothenburg started with three straight losses to Sargent/Burwell (57-18), Broken Bow (45-24), and Ainsworth (37-30). The Swedes then won the final two duals of the day over High Plains (53-24) and St. Pat’s (44-26). Jayden Miller at 152 pounds and Skyler Kottwitz at 170 pounds each went undefeated. They each had two pins on the day.
South Loup Invitational
The Maxwell Wildcats and Sutherland Sailors both competed in the South Loup Invitational on Friday. The Sailors and Wildcats were the class of the tournament with Sutherland placing first with 121 points and Maxwell finishing second with 103.5.
The Sailors had seven wrestlers place, including Collin Fleecs at 132 pounds who placed first with three pins on the day. Nathan Fleecs took second at 138 pounds, Zachary Blake placed third at 170 pounds, Landan fear was third at 182 pounds, Nathaniel Foster took third at 195 pounds and Robert Muench placed third at 220 pounds. Tydus Ditch also placed fourth at 120 pounds.
The Wildcats had six wrestlers place, including two tournament champions. Jaylon Sturdivant took first at 152 pounds with two pins and a tech pin; and Houston Crane took first at 220 pounds with a pin. Ethan Lunkwitz placed third at 132 pounds and Christian Simmons took third at 160 pounds. Sage Gulley finished fourth at 145 pounds and Taylor McKeeman placed fourth at 182 pounds.
