(AP) — Nebraska lawmakers are still debating a proposal to reinstate the winner-take-all system for awarding its electoral votes in presidential races.

Lawmakers adjourned for the day on Wednesday before reaching a vote on the bill, which is backed by the Nebraska Republican Party.

Nebraska currently allocates two of its electoral votes to the statewide winner of a presidential election, while three are awarded based on who won in each congressional district.

Nebraska split its electoral votes for the first time in 2008, when Democrat Barack Obama captured one from Omaha’s 2nd congressional district on his way to winning the presidency. The district went to Republican Mitt Romney in 2012, as did the rest of the state.
