Edward D. “Eddie” Dimmitt, age 68, of North Platte, passed away on February 25, 2014 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 7, 1945 in Broken Bow to Otis J. and A. LaVonne (Brazier) Dimmitt. Eddie grew up in Crofton, NE and moved with his family to North Platte in 1964. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1964. Eddie married Linda Macomber on June 14, 1966 at the First Christian Church in North Platte. The couple made their home in North Platte where Eddie starting working for Hinky Dinky before hiring out with the UPPR as a Carman. He retired from the railroad in 2006 after 37 years of service.
Eddie spent many years coaching his boys’ sports and following their activities as well as his grandchildren’s activities. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, playing poker, and horse racing. Eddie was a member of the UP Employees Club #8, and was a board member of the Buffalo Bill Booster Club.
Survivors include his wife Linda of North Platte; 2 sons, Eddie (Kathy) Dimmitt of Grand Island, and Kevin (Annie) Dimmitt of North Platte; 2 brothers, Richard (Sharon) Dimmitt of Gandy, and Gary (Ellen) Dimmitt of North Platte; a brother-in-law, Richard Beed of North Platte; 4 grandchildren, Regan, Taryn, Peyton, and Abby; and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Donneita Beed and Linda Eaves; and a brother-in-law Gordon Eaves.
A memorial has been established in his name and online condolences can be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Services will be 2:00 pm Saturday March 1, 2014 at the First Christian Church in North Platte with the Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Cremation will take place after the services. Visitation will be Thursday and Friday from 9 am until 9 pm at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
