Kenneth B. Reicheneker, 72, of North Platte, NE, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at his home.

Ken was born November 13, 1941, to John Gottleib and Julia Jelinek Reicheneker at Kearney, NE. He grew up on a farm east of Odessa, NE and graduated from Kearney High School in 1959. Ken worked for the Nebraska Department of Roads for a short time before going to work for the Nebraska National Guard as a mechanic.

On January 28, 1966, Ken married Ann Newquist in Kearney where they made their home until August when Ken was transferred to North Platte with the National Guard. He later switched to the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring from there in 1980. Ken then went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad and retired from there in 2006.

Ken was a member of Eagles Aeries #2839 and the Flatlander Car Club and enjoyed having coffee with his car club buddies. He was a handyman and liked gardening and taking his dog, Baxter, for walks. Ken loved to follow Nebraska football year round. His favorite hobby was keeping his eye on the weather. He also enjoyed talking about and working on old cars. Ken loved his family and liked spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ann, of North Platte; his daughter, Amy (Rich) McIntosh, of Lincoln, NE; a son, Jason Reicheneker, of Denver, CO; his dog, Baxter; three brothers, Erwin (Dixie) Reicheneker, of York, NE and Eugene (Lois) Reicheneker and Johnny (Carol) Reicheneker, all of Kearney; sisters-in-law, Linda (Duane) Bond, of Imperial, NE and Carol (Jim) Goings, of Broken Bow, NE; brother-in-law, Roger (Kimberly) Newquist, of Ord, NE; several nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews, and other family.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia; and two nephews, Randy and Darin Reicheneker.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Dave Logsdon officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore.
