Carl M. Wid, age 87 of Paxton, passed away March 11, 2014 at the Sutherland Care Center.
Carl was born on March 4, 1927 in Paxton, NE to Erik and Eda (Hammond) Wid. He attended school at District 8 in Keith County. He worked on his Uncle John Monson’s ranch for 2 years then entered the US Army June 4, 1945. After his discharge he returned to Paxton. On July 8, 1950 Carl married Gayle Bryant at Sarben, NE. The couple lived south of Paxton where Carl farmed for many years. He was well known for his amazing work ethic. They moved into Paxton in 1998. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #303. He enjoyed building birdhouses, doing woodwork, and riding his 4-wheeler to his coffee group. He loved his animals and family, especially his grandchildren.
Carl is survived by his wife Gayle of Paxton; three children Deborah E. (Kelly) Lammers of Milford, NE, Mark (Brenda) Wid of Lincoln, NE and Blaine (Teresa) Wid of North Platte, NE; his brother Robert (Phyllis) Wid of Axtell, NE; grandchildren Steven (Alisa) Bussen of Kramer, NE, Angie (Tim) Siedell of Lincoln, NE, John (Nicky) Bussen of Lincoln, Brandon (Jamie) Lammers of Peoria, AZ, Malinda (Brandon) Bakker of Auburn, NE, Lyndi (Matt) Johnston of Aurora, CO, Luke Wid of Omaha, Bo (Tracy) Wid of Lincoln, NE, Michael (Whitney) Nolan of St. Louis, MO, Eric (Heidi) Nolan of Misawa, Japan, Travis Nolan of Grand Island, NE, Hannah Wid and Trevor Wid both of Lincoln, NE, Elli Wid of North Platte, NE; 15 great grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Viola Fischer; and brothers, Duane and Elmer.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Paxton Volunteer Fire Department and online condolences may be shared at www.adamsswanson.com. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. MT Monday March 17, 2014 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Paxton with Vicar JA Welsh presiding. Burial will follow at the Paxton Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday and 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday and noon until 6:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Adams and Swanson Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
