Con Osborn Janas, 85, of North Platte, NE, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, at the North Platte Care Center.
Con was born September 2, 1928, to William Edward and Addie Lenore Rutherford Janas at Phoenix, NE and grew up in Colome, SD. After his schooling he joined the U.S. Army in April 1946. While in the military, Con married Lydia “Amanda” Walker on June 8, 1946, at Winner, SD. Following his discharge in 1947 Con and Amanda made their home in Winner. Con owned the Janas’s Mobile Station in Gregory, SD from 1949 to 1955 then went to work in the inventory department of Homestake Mining Company until 1966 when they moved to North Platte where Con worked for Central Distributing as a salesman. He retired in 1991.
Con was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church and a life member of the American Legion in Lead, SD. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Amanda, and daughter, Brenda (Sid) Kibler, all of North Platte; three sons, Marvin Janas, of Farmington, AR and Rob (Peggy) Janas and Allen (Sheryl) Janas, of North Platte; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Darline (Dallas) Tinnell, of Whitewood, SD and Wilma Thomsen, of Rapid City, SD; a brother, Marlin (Margie) Janas, of Highlands Ranch, CO; his sisters-in-law, Pearl Janas, of Gregory, SD and Helen Janas, of Lincoln, AR; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family.
Con was preceded in death by his parents, William and Addie; a sister, Verna Thomsen; two brothers, William and Clinton Janas; his brothers-in-law, Harry Thomsen and Bob Thomsen; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Janas.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Chaplain Gary Smith officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore which is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may also be shared at odeanchapel.com.
