
The secretary for the University of Nebraska at Kearney Music Department has been accused of stealing thousands of dollars from UNK and the Kearney Area Symphony Orchestra, allegedly to fund her son’s wedding.
According to Kearney Police, Jane Jameson has been charged with felony theft by taking after an audit showed nearly $58,000 were unaccounted for.
Authorities say administration at UNK began investigating when they noticed Jameson was purchasing many items related to a wedding. They were aware that Jameson was preparing for her son’s wedding at the time.
Police say an audit revealed that Jameson had improperly used around $34,000 from the University, and around $24,000 from the Symphony over the last three years.
Jameson reportedly admitted taking the money to pay her own bills.
She will be in court today for arraignment.
