Lake McConaughy May Not Hit 60 Percent of Capacity

lake-mac(AP) — An irrigation district engineer says the water level at Lake McConaughy may have topped out for the year at less than 60 percent of capacity.

Cory Steinke works for the Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District, and he says the spring peak may have occurred Sunday when the lake measured 3,239 feet in elevation. He said the level dropped more than a foot and hit 59.4 percent of capacity on Tuesday.

On Tuesday inflows measured 514 cubic feet per second, which was a drop from the Monday figure of 550 cubic feet per second. That’s about 53 percent of normal.

He says several factors could figure into the inflow decline, including the continuing drought and upstream development.
