Ceremonies honoring Nebraska’s law enforcement community will be held across the state as part of National Police Week May 11-17.

A statewide ceremony honoring the lives of officers who have died or been killed in the line of duty will be held today, Monday, May 12, beginning at 10:00 a.m., at Fire Station #1 in Grand Island on the grounds of the Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial located at 409 East Fonner Park Road in Grand Island.

In 2014, the Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial Committee (NLEMC) will add three names to the Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial, bringing to 137 the number of names etched in the Memorial’s granite walls.

The Ceremony will commemorate Scotts Bluff County Corrections Officer Amanda Baker, Union Pacific Railroad Special Agent William Ransom, and Oconto Town Marshal Frederick Schlote.

Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning will be the keynote speaker.  An Honor Guard from the Nebraska Department of Corrections will present the Colors. Representatives from law enforcement agencies across the state, including the Nebraska State Patrol will be in attendance.
