Pauline Edna Shineman, age 97, of Riverton, Nebraska, passed away on May 12, 2014 at Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Pauline was born on May 30, 1916 to Otto and Bertha (Lippstreu) Kahrs on a farm south of Wilcox, Nebraska. Her family moved to Spring Valley, north of Riverton, three years later. In 1929 she graduated from 8th grade at Crystal Springs School and in 1933 Pauline graduated as valedictorian from Riverton High School. Afterwards, she attended Teachers College in Kearney, Nebraska and taught in country schools in both Franklin and McPherson counties.
On January 1, 1936 she married Virgil Shineman of Riverton. After their marriage they moved to the Sandhills of Nebraska to begin ranching. In 1945, they adopted Myron from the Nebraska Children’s Home when he was 8 months old. Pauline loved life on the ranch and was very active in her church. In 1982 Virgil and Pauline moved into Tryon, and after his death in 1983, she remained in Tryon until she moved to North Platte in 1993. She resided in Centennial Park Retirement Village for 19 years until moving to Mountain Vista Retirement Village in Wheat Ridge, Colorado in 2012 to be near family. Pauline loved God, her family, friends, music and reading.
She is survived by her sister –in- law, Lorraine Kahrs of Franklin, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, and many other dear relatives and friends who will miss her greatly.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil; son, Myron; her brothers, Richard and Robert; and sister- in- law, Betty.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the Franklin Cemetery in Franklin, Nebraska with the Pastor Lee Wonch officiating.
Visitation will be noon until 6:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home in North Platte which is in charge of arrangements.
