OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Omaha police say a man critically injured in a mobile home fire has died of his injuries, and homicide detectives are investigating.
Police say 57-year-old Craig Fuhrer died earlier Wednesday morning at the Nebraska Medical Center.
Emergency crews were called just after midnight to Maplewood Estates in northwest Omaha, where firefighters saw light smoke coming from Fuhrer’s home. Inside, firefighters found Fuhrer unconscious in a back bedroom.
Paramedics took Fuhrer in extremely critical condition to the hospital, where he died. Officials say the fire was contained to the living room.
YORK, Neb. (AP) — Authorities are looking into what caused the death of a 24-year-old Lincoln man found unconscious in the York County Jail cell where he was being held on suspicion of impaired driving.
Tyler Crespi was found in his jail cell Sunday and was later pronounced dead at York General Hospital.
Sheriff Dale Radcliff says the Nebraska State Patrol had arrested Crespi in a traffic stop on Interstate 80 around 2 p.m. Sunday on suspicion of driving erratically while under the influence of drugs.
Radcliff says the cause of death has not officially been determined, but authorities suspect Crespi died of a drug overdose.
A grand jury will review the death, as required by state law anytime someone dies in police custody.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska Court of Appeals rejected the appeal of a man serving life for the 1984 shooting death of his wife in Omaha.
David Harrison had filed a writ of habeas corpus, claiming he is being unlawfully imprisoned. Harrison said in claim that his trial judge improperly met with several jurors in his case before jury deliberations, which he said violated his right to due process and should have nullified his conviction and sentence.
A Douglas County court dismissed his claim, saying it didn’t have jurisdiction because Harrison is imprisoned in Tecumseh in Johnson County.
On Tuesday, the state appeals court upheld the dismissal, but said the lower court should have dismissed Harrison’s claim for improper venue, not lack of jurisdiction.
MITCHELL, Neb. (AP) — A teenage girl has been killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash in western Nebraska.
Authorities say the 17-year-old girl was driving the vehicle when it went off a county road northeast of Mitchell around 7 p.m. Tuesday and rolled.
The girl was partially ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. A 20-year-old male passenger was taken to a Scottsbluff hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
Officials have not yet released the identities of the girl or the man. Investigators say neither was wearing a seat belt, and officials are investigating whether alcohol use was a factor in the crash.

A North Platte man has been charged with multiple felonies after he allegedly tried to light a residence on fire while his girlfriend and a small child were inside.
At around 5:21 p.m., on May 26, North Platte Police investigated a possible arson at a residence in the 2300 block of Rodeo Road.
It was reported to police that a resident of the home, James Peterson, had attempted set the house on fire.
According to witnesses, Peterson made comments that he was going to “burn the residence down,” while others were still inside. He then held a lit lighter against a doorway inside the home, and a window on the outside of the residence.
Investigator John Deal said there were visible burn marks, but the girlfriend was able to put the fire out.
Witnesses also stated that Peterson took an aerosol can with a flammable fluid inside, sprayed it towards the woman and child and lit the lighter, causing the fluid to ignite. The woman and child were able to move away from the flames and were not injured.
Peterson then left the residence and went to The Connection Homeless Shelter where he was contacted and placed under arrest.
He’s been charged with felony 1st degree arson, felony cruelty toward a child and felony 1st degree assault.
Peterson was jailed at the Lincoln County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
NEW YORK (AP) — 50 Cent was on the mound, but not on the money.
The rap star was comically off target when he threw out the ceremonial first pitch Tuesday night before the Pittsburgh Pirates played the New York Mets at Citi Field.
Standing on the rubber 60 feet, 6 inches from home plate, 50 Cent wound up and launched a left-handed toss that sailed way wide of Mets catcher Anthony Recker. The ball bounced to the backstop and nearly nicked a cameraman standing not all that far from the Mets’ on-deck circle as 50 Cent and New York pitcher Jonathon Niese both smiled.
Wearing a Mets jersey with No. 50 and the name Jackson on the back, 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson III, held a bat as he posed for pictures with Curtis Granderson and other Mets on the field during batting practice.
50 Cent was born in nearby South Jamaica and has a postgame concert at Citi Field scheduled for June 14.

The Cedar Bowl in North Platte may be here to stay.
The long-time North Platte business closed its doors earlier this month, but new owners are hoping to take over.
According to a post on the Facebook page, “Save Bowling in North Platte,” local entrepreneurs Lonnie and Kelly Parsons and Chris and Gary Suhr have plans to purchase the business, pending financing.
According to the post, “All are long-time North Platters with a commitment to seeing our community grow and prosper.”
The Parsons and Suhrs say they are preparing their business plan to transform the Cedar Bowl into a state-of-the-art bowling alley and family entertainment center. The facility will also feature a “family-friendly” restaurant.
They say keeping the business open will create 35 plus jobs, bring sales tax dollars to North Platte and increase the quality of life for residents.
Parsons said the purchase is contingent upon the city making Quality Growth Funds available. He said they are not requesting funding for the full amount of restoration, just a percentage of the cost.
The Cedar Bowl has operated in its current location since 1978.
No date has been set for the reopening, however, the new owners hope to be operational in time to hold fall bowling leagues.
