Nebraska Killer ‘Relished this Crime,’ Judge Says

eric-henryCOLUMBUS, Neb. (AP) — A 31-year-old man has been given life in prison for stabbing to death a 51-year-old man in Columbus.

Eric Henry was sentenced on Tuesday by Judge Robert Steinke. In April Henry was convicted of first-degree murder for killing Steven Jorgensen at Jorgensen’s home during a botched robbery in May 2013. Steinke said during the sentencing hearing that Henry “relished this crime and the degree of violence rendered (on Jorgensen) made helpless by being bound.”

Two accomplices already have been imprisoned. Kimberly Henderson received a 50- to 60-year sentence, and Quentin Critser was given a 35- to 45-year sentence. They’d pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder.

California Mom Arrested in Killing of 3 Tiny Girls

death-investigationTORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — Detectives say there were several knives recovered at a bloody scene in Southern California where a mother has been arrested in the killing of her three young daughters.

But Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Dave Coleman says it’s not clear how the three girls, who ranged in age from 3 years to 2 months old, were killed.

Detectives are completing their investigation and clearing out of the scene on Wednesday morning, more than 12 hours after the children’s grandmother called them to the home in the unincorporated area near Torrance.

Neighbors say the mother was taken from the scene into an ambulance covered in blood and naked except for a blanket.

EBay Asks Users to Change Password after Breach

EBAYSAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — E-commerce site eBay is asking users to change their password after a cyberattack compromised a database containing encrypted passwords.

The company says there is no evidence of any unauthorized activity and there is no evidence any financial or credit card information was stolen.

EBay says its investigation is active and it can’t comment on the specific number of accounts affected, but says the number could be large.

Cyberattackers stole a small number of employee log-in credentials that gave them access to eBay’s corporate network. The San Jose, California-based company is working with law enforcement to investigate the attack.

The database was hacked sometime between late February and early March.

EBay owns electronic payment service PayPal, but eBay says there is no evidence PayPal information was hacked.

SIDNEY, Neb. (AP) — A Sidney man accused of killing his former father-in-law is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

Online court records say a June 17 hearing is set for 24-year-old Theodore Medina. On Tuesday he pleaded no contest to attempted assault. Prosecutors had lowered the charge and dropped a manslaughter charge in exchange for Medina’s plea.

Cheyenne County authorities say officers had been sent to a Sidney home after someone reported a fight there between Medina and Ernie Ward. Court documents say Medina lived in the 50-year-old Ward’s house despite no longer being married to one of Ward’s daughters.

Officers have said that when they arrived Medina was giving Ward CPR. Medina said Ward’s head was injured when he picked up Ward and threw him down.

Cavs Continue Lottery Luck, get No. 1 Pick Again

Cleveland Cavaliers Logo CavsNEW YORK (AP) — The Cleveland Cavaliers have continued their remarkable lottery luck, winning the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft for the second straight year.

It’s the third time in four years the Cavs will be atop the draft after moving up from the ninth spot. They had just a 1.7 percent chance of winning the top spot Tuesday night.

They drafted Kyrie Irving first in 2011 and will hope to do better with this win than last year, when they took Anthony Bennett, who had a forgettable rookie season.

The Milwaukee Bucks fell one spot to second and the Philadelphia 76ers will draft third.
