GERING, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a man has been taken into custody following a standoff at a house in the Nebraska Panhandle city of Gering.

The incident began early Tuesday morning at a house just south of Northfield Elementary School. Officers evacuated nearby residents because of reports that the man had made threats and was armed.

The man’s name and other details about his standoff and apprehension have not been released. Police say the man was taken to Regional West Medical Center for evaluation.
